The National Identification Authority (NIA) has introduced a four-step registration procedure to allow Ghanaians living outside the country to apply for and obtain the Ghana Card more conveniently.

The initiative, being rolled out in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, seeks to extend access to the national identification system for citizens in the diaspora.

Under the new arrangement, applicants are expected to begin by completing an online registration form and paying the required processing fee through the official NIA registration portal. Ghanaians residing in the United Kingdom and other non-African countries will pay the equivalent of US$115 for the service.

After the online application is submitted, applicants will participate in a virtual interview with an NIA registration officer, who will assess and validate their details. Those whose applications are approved will receive a confirmation notification containing a QR code.

The next phase requires applicants to schedule an appointment, print their QR code and visit the nearest Ghana Mission for biometric data capture.

To support the process, the NIA has announced a special London Pop-Up Registration Exercise on August 1, 2026, at Copthall Playing Fields in London, to provide another opportunity for Ghanaians in the United Kingdom to complete their biometric registration.

Following successful biometric enrolment, applicants will proceed to the final stage, where their Ghana Cards will be produced and issued.

The NIA has urged Ghanaians abroad who are yet to register to take advantage of the initiative by starting the application process online.
