The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has directed schools, publishers, booksellers and other education stakeholders to use only learning materials that have received its official approval for Ghana's pre-tertiary education system.

In a public notice issued on Monday, July 6, 2026, the Council stressed that, under the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023), it is the only institution legally mandated to evaluate, approve and recommend teaching and learning materials for use in basic and senior high schools.

NaCCA explained that no educational resource intended for pre-tertiary schools should be published, marketed, supplied or used unless it has successfully gone through the Council's assessment and approval process.

To help users identify authentic materials, the Council noted that every approved publication is issued with an official NaCCA Approval QR Code, which can be scanned to confirm its approval status.

It therefore encouraged publishers, schools, retailers, booksellers and the public to verify the QR code before printing, purchasing, stocking, distributing or using any educational material.

The Council also expressed concern over reports that some publishers are placing NaCCA's logo and other official insignia on learning materials that have not been vetted or authorised by the Council.

According to NaCCA, the practice is deceptive, unlawful and misrepresents the approval status of such publications.

It has consequently ordered all individuals and publishing firms involved to immediately stop using the Council's name, logo or any symbol suggesting official approval on unapproved materials.

NaCCA warned that anyone who disregards the directive risks regulatory sanctions and legal consequences.

The Council reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the quality and credibility of Ghana's pre-tertiary education by ensuring that only properly vetted and approved learning materials are used in classrooms nationwide.
