C/R: JHS student hospitalised after machete attack during school clean-up exercise
A Junior High School 1 student is in critical condition after sustaining a deep machete wound during a school clean-up exercise at Assin Krofofrodo D/A Basic School in the Assin North District of the Central Region.
The incident reportedly occurred when students were instructed to clear an overgrown section of the school compound using cutlasses.
According to accounts, the 15-year-old female student involved, a JHS 2 pupil, said she had repeatedly warned the boy to stop inappropriate physical contact during the exercise. She alleged that he ignored the warnings.
In response, she allegedly used a cutlass and inflicted a deep wound on his wrist.
The boy sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital after bleeding profusely.
Parents of the victim have accused the school authorities of negligence, claiming they failed to respond promptly or ensure the boy received immediate medical attention.
They alleged that the student was left unattended for some time despite his condition, and was later taken to hospital by a relative who had returned from the farm.
Speaking on behalf of the family, the victim’s elder sister, Joyce Enyan, called for a thorough police investigation into the incident and the handling of the situation by school authorities.
