Police arrest 6 suspects in New Winneba clash

Six suspects have been reportedly arrested in connection with the violent attacks that occurred at New Winneba in the Central Region on Tuesday, September 1.

The violent incident was believed to have emanated from a land dispute, resulting in the death of 3 people and 19 others sustained serious injuries.

According to reports, the victims hailed from communities within the Gomoa area of the Central Region.

What caused the riot, according to eyewitness accounts, was a group of individuals allegedly carrying weapons stormed Gomoa Oguakrom, Gomoa Yenkuadze, and Gomoa Pomadze communities and started inflicting injuries on the residents.

A police officer was among the injured persons.

The injured victims were transported to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba for medical attention.

Monitoring the events, Classfmonline.com is reliably informed that six people have been apprehended by the Central Regional Police Command following the incident.

"The Central Regional Police Command yesterday, arrested six suspects namely: Kweku Kakraba, 52 years, Arko Thomas 19 years, Samuel Tulasi 19 years, Samuel Gyasi 22 years, Emmanuel Okyere 22 years and Seth Osei 22 years in connection with the rioting and attacks at New Winneba", a police statement read.

The Inspector General of Police is also said to have deployed personnel to the areas to restore calm.

Among the police reinforcement is two armoured vehicles dispatched to strengthen security and protect the residents and properties.
