The Volta Regional Police Command has debunked claims contained in a widely circulated social media video, saying it distorts the facts surrounding a recent drug seizure in the Adaklu District.

The response comes after reports suggested that a police driver had been stopped while conveying suspected narcotics and later fled into a forest, leaving the vehicle behind.

In a statement issued on Thursday, March 26, and signed by the Head of the Public Affairs Unit, Chief Inspector Francis Kwaku Gomado, the Command described the operation as intelligence-driven and carried out in a professional manner, dismissing the version presented in the viral clip.

Police explained that on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at about 6:30 p.m., they acted on credible information indicating that unknown persons had deposited sacks believed to contain illicit substances in a wooded area near Ahunda. A team from the Drug Law Enforcement Unit was then dispatched to investigate.

Upon arriving at the scene around 9:00 p.m., officers uncovered thirty-nine sacks of dried plant material suspected to be narcotics hidden in the bush. The items were secured and transported in a police vehicle, while investigations were immediately initiated.

According to the Command, the seized materials are currently in custody undergoing forensic analysis, as efforts continue to track down those behind the operation.

It stressed that the circulating video provides a false account and should be disregarded.

“The footage does not reflect the true circumstances of the exercise and must be treated as misleading,” the statement emphasised.

The Police further reaffirmed their resolve to tackle drug-related offences in the region, noting that attempts to spread misinformation would not hinder their work.

They also appealed to the public and relevant stakeholders to cooperate with authorities in the fight against narcotics in the Volta Region.
