Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has dismissed suggestions that the Mahama administration has approved salary increments for staff at the Presidency and other Article 71 office holders.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, June 15, 2026, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said the remuneration currently being paid to officials covered under Article 71 of the Constitution was determined before the National Democratic Congress (NDC) assumed office.

He explained that Ghana's constitutional framework outlines a specific procedure for reviewing the salaries and conditions of service of Article 71 office holders, which begins with the establishment of an independent committee by the President.

According to him, President John Dramani Mahama has not initiated any such process since taking office.

"President Mahama has not constituted a committee to review the emoluments or conditions of service of Article 71 office holders. The remuneration currently being received by these officials was determined under the previous administration," he stated.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu noted that the existing salary structure remains in effect because the recommendations approved by the former Akufo-Addo administration have not been revised.

His comments come amid claims that the current government had sanctioned new salary increases for presidential staff and other public office holders whose remuneration falls under Article 71 of the Constitution.
