The Member of Parliament for Savelugu Constituency, Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz, has called for increased investment in women, young people and agriculture, describing the sector as a key driver of economic transformation, job creation and sustainable development.

She said empowering women and the youth, alongside strengthening agriculture was essential to improving household incomes and building resilient communities.

Hajia Fatahiya made the call while chairing a youth empowerment forum and coconut seedling distribution programme organised by the Atidefe Foundation.

She commended the foundation for its interventions to improve livelihoods and create opportunities for vulnerable groups, stressing that sustained investment in women remained critical to national development.

The MP disclosed that she had recently organised a skills training programme for about 500 women in her constituency to equip them with practical knowledge and opportunities to improve their wellbeing.

She also encouraged individuals, corporate bodies and development organisations to invest in agriculture, particularly coconut cultivation, which she said, had enormous potential to create jobs, increase household incomes and contribute significantly to Ghana's economic growth.

Hajia Fatahiya urged beneficiaries of the coconut seedlings to regard them as long-term investments rather than gifts.

"The seedlings being distributed today are not merely plants; they are investments in livelihoods and symbols of a prosperous future. Nurture them with dedication so they can become lasting assets for you and your families," she said.

Addressing the youth, the MP encouraged them to take advantage of educational and skills development opportunities while embracing discipline, hard work and perseverance.

"Choose discipline over shortcuts, education over ignorance, hard work over excuses, and hope over despair. Your background does not determine your destiny, and your circumstances do not define your future," she stated.

The programme formed part of efforts to promote youth empowerment, women empowerment and agricultural development through strategic partnerships and community-based interventions.
