The government has launched a “Nationwide Labour Migration Readiness Campaign” to prepare young Ghanaians for safe, regular and ethical employment opportunities abroad.

Launching the initiative in Accra, the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr. Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo said the campaign is designed to equip prospective migrant workers with the knowledge and information needed to make informed decisions while protecting them from exploitation and unsafe recruitment practices.

He noted that labour migration, when properly managed, can create decent employment opportunities and contribute to national development through skills acquisition and remittances.

“We are committed to helping young Ghanaians access safe, regular and ethical employment opportunities abroad,” Dr. Pelpuo said.

The minister stressed that the government would continue to work closely with relevant State institutions, development partners and international organisations to strengthen labour migration governance and ensure the welfare of Ghanaian workers overseas.

According to Dr. Pelpuo, the campaign forms part of broader efforts to promote decent work and prepare prospective migrants with the information required to navigate overseas employment opportunities responsibly.

He urged young people seeking employment abroad to rely on authorised recruitment channels and take advantage of the campaign's educational activities to avoid falling victim to human trafficking, fraud and labour exploitation.

The Nationwide Labour Migration Readiness Campaign is expected to be rolled out across the country, providing awareness, guidance and support to prospective migrant workers as part of the government's commitment to promoting safe and orderly labour migration.
