The Bono East Regional Police Command says normalcy has returned to the Krobo Nursing Training College near Techiman after a student protest escalated into violence, leaving a police officer injured and two students in custody.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, the Command said the disturbance occurred on Monday, July 27, when students staged a demonstration without notifying the Police as required under the Public Order Act.

According to the Police, officers moved to the campus after receiving intelligence about the planned protest and held discussions with student leaders in an attempt to prevent the demonstration. Despite the engagement, the students reportedly marched towards the Techiman township.

The Command said the situation turned chaotic when some demonstrators allegedly hurled stones at police personnel, police vehicles and passers-by, resulting in injuries to one officer.

Police said officers fired warning shots to disperse the crowd and restore order after the violence intensified.

Two students, identified as 27-year-old Paulina Felayire and 21-year-old Gabriel Boadu, were subsequently arrested for allegedly participating in the stone-throwing. They remain in police custody and are assisting with investigations.

Initial findings suggest the protest was triggered by concerns over the quality and provision of meals at the nursing training college.

The Police said additional security personnel have been deployed to the campus and nearby communities to maintain law and order and prevent any further unrest.

The Bono East Regional Police Command also appealed to the public to pursue lawful channels when expressing grievances and reminded organisers of public demonstrations of their legal obligation to notify the Police before such events are held.
