The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) says it is working to restore electricity supply after a major disturbance on the National Interconnected Transmission System caused power outages in parts of the country early Wednesday morning.

In a statement, the power transmission company disclosed that the disruption occurred at approximately 3:11 a.m., triggering the simultaneous shutdown of some power generation plants connected to the national grid and interrupting electricity supply to customers.

GRIDCo said its engineers and system operators immediately initiated the company's power restoration protocol and are working with other stakeholders in the electricity sector to re-establish supply as quickly as possible while ensuring the safety and stability of the system.

The company also announced that investigations are underway to establish what triggered the incident.

According to GRIDCo, a detailed technical assessment has commenced to determine the exact cause of the system disturbance.

The company expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the outages and appealed to the public for patience as restoration efforts continue.

GRIDCo assured customers that additional information will be provided as investigations progress and more details become available.
