The Ghana Police Service has arrested Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng, a suspected romance scammer, for allegedly defrauding women through false promises of marriage and the non-consensual sharing of intimate images.

In a statement, the Police said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect posed as a pastor conducting online church services on Instagram, where he allegedly targeted women and claimed that God had revealed they were his future wives.

According to the Police, he gained the trust of the women by meeting their families and presenting them with promise rings.

The suspect is also accused of obtaining intimate images from some of the victims and using them to blackmail them for money.

Police further alleged that he introduced some victims to a fake car tyre business, collecting thousands of dollars under the pretext of shipping and clearing containers of tyres before becoming unreachable.

Investigations also revealed that the suspect allegedly shared intimate images of some victims with his wife, Sally Akosua Amoasah, who is accused of threatening the victims.

The Police said seven victims have so far reported the matter, with investigations indicating that the alleged offences date back to 2021.

Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng and Sally Akosua Amoasah were arraigned before Accra Circuit Court 1 on charges of conspiracy to commit crime, namely defrauding by false pretences, defrauding by false pretences, and non-consensual sharing of intimate images.

The court remanded Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng into Police custody to reappear on August 6, 2026, while Sally Akosua Amoasah was granted bail.

The Ghana Police Service said it continues to receive complaints from other possible victims and urged anyone who may have experienced similar incidents involving the suspect to report to the nearest police station to assist ongoing investigations.
