The Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has tasked the Appointments Committee with vetting and reporting on two of President John Dramani Mahama’s ministerial nominees.

The nominees Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, named to head the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology, and Mahama Ayariga, nominated as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

The referral was made during Parliament’s emergency sitting on Monday, August 24, 2026, following the Speaker’s communication of the President’s nominations to the House.

Speaker Bagbin urged the Committee to work within the short period available under the emergency recall. He said the Committee’s proceedings must be concluded in time for the relevant motions to be presented before Parliament in line with the House’s Standing Orders.

“I accordingly refer the two to the Appointments Committee for consideration and report to the House,” Speaker Bagbin announced.

“I want to remind the House that the period I gave in my notice is for a sitting of one week and that should be taken into consideration by the Appointments Committee,” he said.
