The Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice has rejected a plea bargain proposal submitted by New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, in the ongoing Exim Bank fraud case.

According to information released on Tuesday, July 21, plea negotiations between the Attorney General's Office and Chairman Wontumi failed after the proposal presented by the accused, to the Attorney-General, did not meet the prosecution's expectations.

The rejection means the case is expected to proceed through the courts unless both parties reach a fresh agreement that satisfies the conditions of the Attorney General's Office.

Chairman Wontumi is facing trial over allegations linked to the Exim Bank fraud case. 

The Attorney General's Office has not publicly disclosed the specific terms of the rejected proposal but maintains that the offer was inadequate to warrant a plea agreement.

The development marks another significant step in the high-profile case with legal proceedings expected to continue in court as prosecutors pursue the matter.
