The Nkawie Circuit Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region has remanded a 30-year-old mason into prison custody over charges of unlawful entry, causing damage, and stealing.

The accused, Solomon Wereko, pleaded not guilty to all three charges and is expected to reappear in court on April 22, 2026.

Presenting the case, Police Inspector Kwaku Frimpong told the court, presided over by Mr Robert Addo, that both the complainant, Asor Gyamfi, a trader, and the accused reside at Mpasatia in the Atwima Mponua District.

According to the prosecution, the incident occurred in the early hours of April 4, 2026. The complainant had sent her two sons on an errand, but when they arrived at their mother’s shop, they noticed that the lights, which had been switched off the previous night, were on.

Suspicious of the situation, the boys moved closer and saw the accused inside the shop. They immediately raised an alarm, prompting the complainant and some residents to rush to the scene.

The matter was subsequently reported to the Mpasatia Police, who proceeded to the location with the complainant. Wereko was arrested on the spot and taken into custody for investigations.

Police later revisited the scene with the suspect, where he demonstrated how he allegedly carried out the act. According to the prosecution, he climbed onto a lotto kiosk adjacent to the shop, damaged part of the structure, accessed the shop through the front roof, broke the padlock, and entered.

The prosecution further stated that the suspect made away with 14 bottles of liquid soap, 30 pairs of hand gloves, three electrical cables, and five pairs of socks, all valued at GHS 1,160.

However, in his caution statement, Wereko admitted to unlawful entry but denied causing damage and stealing.

Following investigations, he was formally charged and brought before the court, which ordered his remand.
