Ashanti Police recover weapons and ammunition from abandoned vehicle

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched investigations after recovering weapons and ammunition from an abandoned vehicle along the Aputuoagya–Bekwai road on Sunday, August 17.
According to police, a Kuntanase District Patrol Team conducting routine checks spotted a white Toyota Sienta with registration number NR 289-24 suspiciously parked near a bushy area.
Two men, allegedly smoking a substance suspected to be narcotics, were seen standing beside the vehicle.
Upon noticing the approaching patrol team, the men fled into a nearby bush and managed to escape despite a police chase.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a cache of weapons and other items believed to suggest preparation for criminal activity. The items recovered included:
One AK-47 assault rifle (Serial No. 29546)
One locally manufactured firearm
Two AK-47 magazines loaded with 30 rounds each
Four packets of AK-47 ammunition (25 rounds each)
Seven loose rounds of ammunition
One pair of Wellington boots
One Huawei smartphone
Cowrie shells
One pair of sandals
A Ghanacard and a temporary driver’s license (name withheld for security reasons).
The vehicle has since been impounded at the Kuntanase Police Station, while the recovered items are being kept as exhibits to aid ongoing investigations.
In a statement, the Ashanti Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating violent crime and safeguarding residents.
It also appealed to the public to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
Members of the public are encouraged to report relevant information to the nearest police station or call the emergency numbers 191, 18555, or 112.
