CID, Military Police deepen partnership to combat emerging and tech-driven crimes
The Ghana Police Service has renewed efforts to strengthen collaboration between its Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Ghana Armed Forces Military Police Command as part of a broader strategy to tackle increasingly complex and technology-driven crimes.
During a working visit to the Military Police Command at Burma Camp on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, the Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department, Lydia Yaako Donkor, called for closer coordination between the two security institutions to effectively address evolving criminal threats.
She observed that crime has moved beyond conventional patterns and now includes cyber-related and other technology-facilitated offences, requiring specialised skills and modern investigative approaches. According to her, continuous capacity-building in areas such as crime scene management, interviewing techniques, and digital investigations is critical to improving outcomes.
The Commanding Officer of the Ghana Military Police, Jacqueline Dela Galley, also raised concerns about the rise in impersonation and cyber-related crimes, describing them as significant emerging challenges. She underscored the importance of establishing clearer referral and coordination systems, particularly in cases that involve both military personnel and civilians.
Both leaders expressed confidence that structured collaboration, regular engagement, and joint training initiatives would strengthen investigations and enhance the overall law enforcement response to evolving security threats.
The renewed partnership is expected to improve intelligence sharing and operational efficiency between the two institutions as they work together to safeguard national security.
