Five arrested after armed robbery attack on spare parts shop in Asankrangwa
The Ghana Police Service in Asankrangwa has arrested five suspects in connection with an armed robbery attack on a spare parts shop at Malta, a suburb of Asankrangwa.
The incident occurred on March 12, 2026, at about 6:30 p.m., when six armed men reportedly attacked Chen Zchao, a Chinese national, and his younger brother, Yao Chan, at their shop.
The assailants, armed with pump-action guns and cutlasses, made away with three mobile phones and an amount of GHS200,000 before fleeing in a black Toyota Voxy vehicle towards Sefwi Bekwai.
The robbery was reported to Police at about 7:20 p.m., prompting a swift response.
A coordinated operation involving the Asankrangwa night patrol team and officers at the Sumpre Police Checkpoint led to the interception of the suspect vehicle around 8:00 p.m.
Four suspects—Issaku Ibrahim, 42; Fatau Ali, 25; Yahaya Mumuni, 26; and Emmanuel Antwi, 22—were arrested after attempting to flee upon being stopped.
A search conducted on the vehicle led to the retrieval of GHS198,200 in cash, three mobile phones, two pump-action guns loaded with 14 AA cartridges, a Bruni Mod 84 pistol with eight rounds of ammunition, a machete, an amulet, and two CCTV decoders.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects travelled from Obuasi to carry out the robbery.
Police say the suspects have provided caution statements, and all retrieved items have been secured as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.
Meanwhile, a fifth suspect was arrested by members of the community the following morning and handed over to Police to assist with further inquiries.
