The Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD) has presented a reward of GH¢12.65 million to the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) following a landmark gold seizure that authorities say prevented the illegal export of the precious mineral and safeguarded significant state revenue.

The reward was presented under GOLDBOD's intelligence and whistleblower incentive scheme, which seeks to encourage collaboration among security agencies and individuals in the fight against gold smuggling and illicit trade.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, GOLDBOD officials commended NACOC for its professionalism and swift action in intercepting the gold consignment, describing the operation as a major breakthrough in efforts to sanitize Ghana's gold sector.

The seizure is regarded as one of the most significant in recent times and highlights the growing cooperation between state institutions in tackling illegal mineral exports and protecting the country's natural resources.

According to GOLDBOD, illegal gold smuggling continues to deprive Ghana of substantial revenue and undermines efforts to maximize benefits from the country's mineral wealth.

The board reiterated its commitment to working closely with security agencies to clamp down on illicit activities in the gold trade and ensure that all gold exports comply with the country's laws and regulations.

NACOC, for its part, pledged to sustain its collaboration with other state institutions in combating organised crime and illegal trade activities that threaten the country's economic interests.
