The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) is urging the public to avoid rushing to condemn the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) over the release of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results.

The association says concerns about the outcome of the examination should be addressed through the appropriate channels rather than through speculation or public accusations. It encouraged parents, candidates and other stakeholders with doubts about the results to formally seek clarification from WAEC.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, August 5, GNAT General Secretary Thomas Tanko Musah said the examination body should also be transparent by explaining the procedures used in compiling and releasing the results.

He stressed that while questions about the examination process are legitimate, they should be pursued responsibly and based on evidence.

Mr Musah further advised parents and guardians not to place undue pressure on candidates, cautioning that treating examination results as though they determine a child’s entire future could negatively affect their mental well-being.

He, therefore, called on parents, education stakeholders and public commentators to respond to examination results with restraint and avoid comments that could heighten anxiety among students.
