The Head of Communications and Partnerships for the Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS), Eredon Gien Joseph has expressed concern over the 2026 BECE results.

Speaking in an interview with Accra News, he said the association is saddened by the performance of many private school students and is calling on the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to explain the results.

Mr Gien Joseph said private schools have consistently produced strong academic results over the years. 

According to him, many people believe private school students usually perform better than their counterparts in public schools, making this year's results surprising and disappointing.

He also raised concerns about what he described as possible irregularities in the results. 

He cited the case of a student who did not register to write the Ewe language paper but was given a passing grade in the subject. 

He said this has raised serious questions about the accuracy of the released results.

Mr Gien Joseph further stated that private schools have submitted several concerns about the examination results.

He questioned why private school students, who have traditionally performed well, recorded such unexpected results this year. 

He added that the association believes WAEC should address these concerns to restore confidence in the examination process.

When asked whether GNAPS wanted WAEC to remark the examination scripts, Mr. Gien Joseph replied that is not the association's request because students have already started selecting their Senior High Schools.

He also stressed that GNAPS will soon issue an official statement to express its dissatisfaction and urged WAEC to take the necessary steps to address the concerns.
