Justice B.Y.K. Oppong recalled from General Legal Council role as Prof Atubuga takes over from him

The Acting Chief Justice of Ghana, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, has recalled Court of Appeal Judge, His Lordship Justice B.Y.K. Oppong, from his secondment to the General Legal Council (GLC), where he has been serving as Director of Legal Education.
In a directive dated August 8, 2025, the Acting Chief Justice stated that the Judiciary now requires the full services of Justice Oppong, and his recall will take effect from September 1, 2025.
Justice Oppong was appointed Director of Legal Education on July 31, 2024, shortly after his elevation to the Court of Appeal. During his tenure, he was credited with making notable contributions to professional legal education in Ghana.
The position will now be taken over by Professor Raymond A. Atuguba, former Dean of the University of Ghana School of Law, who has been appointed Acting Director of Legal Education pending a permanent appointment by a search committee.
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie, in acknowledging Justice Oppong’s service, expressed appreciation for his “significant contributions” to the advancement of legal training in the country.
The notice of recall was copied to the Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, the Judicial Secretary, the Secretary to the GLC, the Attorney-General, the Registrar of the Ghana School of Law, members of the GLC, and the Director of Human Resources of the Judicial Service
