IGP promotes officers for foiling robbery and rescuing victims

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted two officers of the Ghana Police Service in recognition of their diligence, vigilance, and dedication during a snap check operation at Ablekuma Borkorborkor in the Greater Accra Region.
Their swift action led to the rescue of two robbery victims and the arrest of seven suspects.
The officers — Chief Inspector Patience Kotoka and Constable Joseph Akondoh — both stationed at the Anyah District Police Command, were honoured alongside five Community Police Assistants (CPAs) at a ceremony held at the Police Headquarters on 8th August 2025.
Constable Akondoh was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal, while Chief Inspector Kotoka was recommended for admission into the next Police Cadet Course at the Police Academy, where successful completion will see her commissioned into the Senior Officer Corps.
The recognition follows an incident on 7th August 2025, at about 12:30 a.m., when the officers, during routine checks, stopped a green pickup truck carrying three passengers in its open bucket.
Two of the men jumped down, shouting for help, and revealed they had been attacked in a robbery involving their 5,400-litre fuel tanker the previous night near Nsawam.
Acting quickly, the officers rescued the victims and arrested one suspect as others fled.
Subsequent intelligence-led operations in the Eastern Region resulted in the arrest of six more suspects and the recovery of the stolen tanker, another fuel tanker, a pumping machine, and a vehicle linked to the crime.
Commending the team, the IGP praised their professionalism and commitment, urging all police personnel to emulate such exemplary service.
He reiterated the Police aministration’s resolve to recognise and reward officers who excel in the line of duty.
