MUSEC orders immediate closure of Obuasi SHTS after headmaster was violently assaulted
The Obuasi Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) has ordered the immediate closure of Obuasi Senior High Technical School following a violent student riot that left the headmaster critically injured, as six students have been arrested in connection with the attack.
The Headmaster, Abdullai Zakaria, sustained severe head injuries when a section of the student body attacked him with cutlasses over rumours that he had secretly buried an infant on the school premises.
Zakaria was initially rushed to the AngloGold Ashanti Hospital in Obuasi before being transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi for advanced emergency treatment.
Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Faustilove Appiah Kannin, announced the shutdown following an emergency security meeting at the school campus.
She confirmed that authorities are completing a mandatory roll call before sending all students home to allow security agencies to conduct a thorough probe.
The violence extended to widespread vandalism across the campus, including severe damage to school property and the destruction of the headmaster’s private vehicle.
Heavy police personnel have been deployed to the school, successfully restoring order, though all academic activities remain suspended indefinitely.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into both the brutal assault and vandalism, as well as the initial infanticide allegations that triggered the violence.
