Special needs student, 14, allegedly sexually assaulted at Bolgatanga Girls SHS; 2 watchmen interdicted
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted two watchmen of Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School over an alleged sexual assault involving a student of the school.
The GES said preliminary reports indicate that the student is a special needs student who is on medication.
According to the service, the student reportedly suffered a relapse on the day of the incident and required medical attention. It was during this period that the alleged incident occurred.
The two watchmen were arrested and handed over to the Police for further investigation. The GES has also interdicted them with immediate effect.
“Thorough investigations into the matter are currently ongoing,” the service said.
It added that the appropriate sanctions would be applied based on the outcome of the investigations, in accordance with the GES Code of Conduct and the laws of Ghana.
The GES cautioned all staff to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and protect the safety, dignity and wellbeing of every student.
“Management further cautions that the Service will not tolerate any conduct that compromises the safety and wellbeing of students,” the statement said.
The service assured parents, guardians and the general public that it was treating the matter with the seriousness it deserved.
According to a police report, the defilement victim is 14-years-old.
