Former Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) appointed under ex-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo have called for the immediate payment of their unpaid End-of-Service Benefits, nearly a year after their dismissal from office.

The former MMDCEs were relieved of their duties on January 8, 2025, but say they are yet to receive their entitlements, leaving many of them in severe financial difficulty.

Speaking on their behalf, the group’s spokesperson and Dean, former District Chief Executive for Achiase, Mr. Richmond Amponsah, said all necessary processes for the payment have been completed, making the continued delay unjustifiable.

He explained that a committee established by the Ministry of Local Government, following a directive from the Chief of Staff, Mr. Julius Debrah, and on the advice of the Attorney-General, calculated and audited the End-of-Service Benefits.

The completed report was subsequently submitted to the Ministry of Finance in July 2025.

According to Mr. Amponsah, despite two separate directives from the Chief of Staff instructing the Finance Ministry to expedite the release of funds, the payments have still not been made.

The former MMDCEs have described the situation as unusual, pointing out that in 2017, the Akufo-Addo administration paid the End-of-Service Benefits of MMDCEs appointed under former President John Dramani Mahama within five months of their exit from office.

They are therefore appealing to the government to act swiftly to honour its obligations and alleviate the financial hardships being faced by affected former officials.
