Methodist Church urges responsible social media use, highlights community impact
The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, Prof. J. Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu,has called on ministers of the Church to use social media responsibly, following recent public discussions involving the institution.
According to the Bishop, a directive has been communicated through the Church’s leadership to ensure that ministers exercise caution and responsibility in their online engagements.
His remarks come in the wake of two issues concerning the Church that surfaced on social media over the past week.
One centred on public debate surrounding tithes, to which the Presiding Bishop said he had offered a brief response.
The second issue involved the Koforidua Diocese’s renovation of a ward at a local hospital, an initiative he noted received little public attention despite its significance.
The Presiding Bishop suggested that a broader understanding of the Church’s work would require connecting such initiatives with discussions about how tithes are utilised, pointing to the Church’s ongoing contributions to social development.
He emphasised the need for balanced discourse, urging the public to consider both criticisms and positive interventions by the Church in their assessment of its role in society.
