President Mahama backs GIS modernisation, reaffirms support for secure borders initiative
President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed government’s commitment to modernising the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), assuring the Service of full support for ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening border security and operational efficiency.
The assurance was given during a courtesy call on the President at the Jubilee House by the Governing Council of the Ghana Immigration Service, led by the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak.
The visit served as an official introduction of the newly constituted Council to the President, as well as an opportunity to brief him on key governance reforms within the Service and seek his strategic guidance on its future direction.
President Mahama commended the Council for its efforts to reposition the GIS and stressed the importance of equipping the Service with modern tools and systems to respond effectively to evolving migration and security challenges.
He reiterated government’s backing for initiatives aimed at strengthening border management, improving institutional capacity, and enhancing national security under the “Secure Our Borders” agenda.
The Council is expected to drive reforms that will improve efficiency, coordination, and service delivery within the Immigration Service as part of broader efforts to modernise Ghana’s security architecture.
