President Mahama launches National Apprenticeship Programme with GHS 300 million

President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled a major national initiative aimed at equipping young Ghanaians with practical skills for employment and entrepreneurship.
The newly launched National Apprenticeship Programme is set to begin this May, offering hands-on training opportunities across the country.
According to President Mahama, the programme will follow a 70% practical and 30% classroom-based model to ensure participants gain both technical expertise and foundational knowledge.
Training will be accessible in all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), as well as online through the National Youth Authority (NYA) platform.
“This initiative charts a bold path toward a future where every young Ghanaian has the tools and opportunities to succeed,” the President said during the launch event.
“We are committed to leaving no one behind, which is why this programme is designed to be inclusive and far-reaching.”
To support its successful rollout, President Mahama announced that GHS 300 million has been fully allocated in the 2025 national budget.
The funding will cover training costs, logistics, and support services, making the programme entirely free for participants.
The National Apprenticeship Programme is part of a broader youth empowerment agenda focused on reducing unemployment and improving livelihoods through skills development and entrepreneurship.
