Patients at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) have expressed gratitude to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his intervention in resolving the recent strike by doctors at the facility.

The industrial action was suspended following mediation efforts involving the Asantehene and other key stakeholders in the health sector.

Doctors officially resumed work at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, with services at the Outpatient Department (OPD), consulting rooms and other units returning to normal operations on Wednesday.

Patients who visited the hospital after services resumed expressed relief and appreciation for the restoration of healthcare services. Many commended the Asantehene for his role in facilitating dialogue and praised the doctors for returning to work.

Some patients also reported receiving prompt medical attention following the resumption of services after days of disruption caused by the strike.

The industrial action began after doctors protested the suspension of the hospital's Chief Executive Officer by the Ministry of Health.

The CEO was suspended following a decision by hospital management to temporarily halt admissions at the Accident and Emergency Centre amid operational challenges and concerns over congestion at the facility.

The suspension of the strike has paved the way for continued discussions aimed at resolving the issues that led to the dispute.
