GSA cracks down on substandard mattress manufacturers in Greater Accra
The Ghana Standards Authority intensified enforcement actions against defaulters who failed to adhere to its standards.
The Ghana Standard Authority has embarked on enforcement actions against defaulters failing to adhere to the authority’s standards.
Some of the companies the team visited were Jin Yuan Jia a Chinese company that produces mattresses labeled 8H Mattress and Moonsa Mattresses at the Green Stone near Afienya in the Greater Acrra Region.
The mattress produced according to the GSA is a substandard product which is detrimental to human health.
According to them, chemical used for the product can pose health threat to consumers.
Some of the offender were arrested and factories locked up to make sure the right thing is done.

Speaking to the media was the Greater Accra Regional Manager, Clement Kubati who noted the materials for the products are unapproved and is therefore not good for consumers.
He said the GSA will make sure that product of substandard are taken away from the market and will shut down the company until the right thing is done.
He also indicated that the gesture taken was not to create fear and panic but to protect consumers as far the GSA is concerned.

The manager further indicated that the companies in question were warn and closed temporarily but they went behind and broke the seals placed on their padlocks which was an offence and will proceed to prosecute them which serve a deterrent to others to follow.
