Mahama Cares Trust Fund doing needs assessment

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) has reaffirmed its commitment to improving access to specialised medical care across the country, with recent visits to key regional hospitals aimed at addressing service gaps outside urban centres.

Following an initial assessment at Sefwi-Wiawso Government Hospital in the Western North Region, the GMTF team, led by Health Policy Advisor Dr. Norbert Kipo, visited Goaso Municipal Hospital in the Ahafo Region to advance its needs assessment and engagement with hospital management and clinicians.

The initiative seeks to reduce the concentration of specialist services in urban areas, ensuring that patients in rural and underserved communities no longer have to travel long distances for life-saving care.

During the visit, the GMTF team gained first-hand insight into the hospital’s infrastructure, equipment, and systems, with a focus on improving care for patients battling chronic non-communicable diseases.

Officials say the assessments will inform the Fund’s strategic interventions to strengthen regional hospitals and expand specialist service delivery in line with its mission of equitable healthcare access for all Ghanaians
