The Ghana Medical Trust Fund, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, is set to construct cardiology centres across the country as part of efforts to improve specialised healthcare delivery and strengthen the treatment of heart-related conditions.

The initiative is expected to significantly transform Ghana’s cardiac care landscape by expanding access to specialised heart treatment and reducing the burden on patients who often travel long distances to seek advanced medical care.

According to the Administrator of the Fund, the cardiology centres will help bring life-saving cardiac services closer to communities while improving early diagnosis, treatment, and management of cardiovascular diseases.

Adwoa Oboubia Darko-Opoku, said the project also forms part of broader interventions aimed at strengthening Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure and improving access to quality specialised healthcare services nationwide.

Health sector stakeholders believe the establishment of the centres will ease pressure on existing referral hospitals, enhance patient outcomes, and contribute to the country’s efforts to tackle the rising prevalence of heart diseases and other Non-Communicable conditions.

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that improve healthcare access and strengthen specialised medical care delivery across the country.
