Health Minister appeals for leniency in case involving staff nurse
The Minister for Health, Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has appealed to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to exercise leniency in handling a disciplinary case involving a staff nurse, Ms. Bernice Aboagye, who was issued a query letter for allegedly making unprofessional comments about the Minister on social media.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Health on October 12, 2025, and signed by Tony Goodman, Head of Health Training Institutions and Spokesperson for the Ministry, the Minister commended the GHS for its swift action in upholding the standards of professionalism and the Code of Conduct for health workers.
However, the Minister urged that mercy be extended to Ms. Aboagye, stressing the importance of accommodating constructive criticism and divergent opinions within the health sector.
He encouraged all health workers to express their views responsibly and respectfully, noting that open dialogue and mutual respect are vital for the continuous growth and improvement of Ghana’s healthcare system.
The Ministry reiterated that it does not oppose demonstrations, describing them as a constitutional right and a legitimate means for citizens to express their grievances.
Nonetheless, it cautioned against the use of abusive language, personal attacks, or any acts of indiscipline during such actions.
Finally, the Ministry reminded all health professionals to remain circumspect in their public statements and social media engagements, emphasising the need to uphold professionalism, respect, and decorum in all forms of communication.
