Health Ministry shuts down Techiman Krobo Nursing College over campus unrest
The Ministry of Health has temporarily closed the Nursing Training College, Techiman Krobo with immediate effect following an unrest and a breakdown of rules and regulations at the institution.
The closure, announced on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, follows what the Ministry described as continued acts by some students that disrupted academic activities and threatened the peace, safety, and orderly administration of the college.
In a statement, the Ministry said; “Despite several meetings, counselling, and appeals by stakeholders including the Regional Security Council, the Ministry to encourage dialogue and restore order, some students have continued to engage in conduct that disrupts academic activities and threatens the peace, safety, and orderly administration of the institution.”
The Nursing Training College, Techiman Krobo, is among Ghana’s health training institutions responsible for producing professional nurses to support healthcare delivery across the country.
Like other health training institutions, it operates under rules and regulations designed to promote discipline and ensure a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
The Ministry said the temporary closure is necessary to restore calm and allow relevant authorities to assess the situation and determine the next steps towards reopening the college.
It stated, “The temporary closure is intended to restore calm, protect lives and property, and allow appropriate authorities to assess the situation and determine the necessary steps toward reopening the College under conducive conditions.”
“The institution has directed all students to vacate the campus peacefully and return to their respective homes by 5:00 pm on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. Parents and guardians have been advised to make the necessary arrangements for their wards.”
The Ministry further assured stakeholders that it is working to resolve the matter promptly, adding that updates on the reopening of the college will be communicated through official channels.
It said “every effort will be made to resolve the situation promptly” while appreciating the understanding and cooperation of students, parents, guardians, staff, and the general public as authorities work to restore a safe and disciplined learning environment.
