MahamaCares mark World Hypertension Day, urge regular blood pressure checks
The Ghana Medicla Trust Fund(GMTF) also known as Mahama Cares is raising awareness about hypertension, commonly described as the “silent killer,” as the world marks World Hypertension Day.
According to the Fund, many people live with the condition without knowing, increasing their risk of serious complications such as heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure if left undiagnosed and untreated.
The Fund noted that hypertension is both preventable and controllable through regular monitoring and the adoption of healthy lifestyle practices, including balanced diets, reduced salt intake, physical activity, and routine medical check-ups.
As part of commemorative messages for the day, individuals are being encouraged to take proactive steps to protect their heart health by checking their blood pressure regularly.
“Every measurement counts. Every healthy choice matters,” health advocates emphasised, urging the public to prioritise early detection and consistent management of blood pressure levels.
World Hypertension Day is observed globally to highlight the importance of awareness, prevention, and control of high blood pressure, which remains one of the leading risk factors for cardiovascular diseases worldwide
