A pregnant woman, Abigail Opoku, died on Sunday, April 26, at the Mother and Child Hospital in Kasoa, Central Region, after staff allegedly refused to perform a caesarean section due to a lack of beds.

According to her sister, Abigail was referred to the hospital from a private facility following prolonged labour.

Despite multiple requests from both the family and the patient for a surgical intervention, hospital staff reportedly declined, citing a full recovery ward.

The family states that Abigail remained in pain without medication for nearly 36 hours before passing away with her unborn child.

Relatives claim this is not an isolated incident at the facility and are calling for an official review of the hospital’s operations.

Efforts to obtain a response from the hospital’s medical director and administrator have been unsuccessful.
