Only 5% of Ghanaian health facilities fully equipped, reveals Health Minister
Ghana's Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has revealed that only five per cent of the country's health facilities currently possess the full complement of medical equipment required to deliver quality healthcare services.
Mr Akandoh made these remarks following a tour of the Mother and Child Hospital in Kasoa, which was conducted as part of an assessment of national healthcare infrastructure and service delivery.
He identified the deficit of essential medical equipment as a primary challenge affecting hospitals, clinics, and primary healthcare centers nationwide.
Describing the deficit as an issue inherited by the current administration, the Minister stated that many facilities continue to operate under constrained conditions.
He noted that while the systemic shortage cannot be resolved immediately, the government has initiated procurement and distribution efforts to supply medical and hospital equipment across the country, with an initial focus on strengthening primary healthcare delivery.
