The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that it has secured 120 job opportunities for Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa amid ongoing xenophobic tensions in that country.

According to the ministry, the opportunities were provided by Ghanaian business owners as part of efforts to support the reintegration of returning citizens.

In a statement issued on Monday, June 1, the ministry called on more Ghanaian CEOs and entrepreneurs to participate in the initiative by offering jobs to evacuees.

“We invite Ghanaian CEOs and entrepreneurs desirous of employing Ghanaians returning from South Africa to contact the Delivery Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” the statement said.

The ministry said the Delivery Unit, headed by Ambassador Alexander Grant Ntrakwa, is coordinating the initiative and can be reached through a dedicated contact line by prospective employers.

It added that 120 job opportunities have so far been secured from Ghanaian business owners, and encouraged others to support the programme.

The initiative is part of government efforts to support Ghanaians affected by recent anti-foreigner tensions in South Africa, which led to the evacuation of citizens who opted to return home. A total of 300 individuals have been evacuated so far.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of Ghanaians abroad, stating that efforts are ongoing to ensure the safety, dignity, and reintegration of all evacuees.

“We value and cherish all our citizens,” the statement added.
