President Mahama to prioritise completion of 35 Agenda 111 hospitals in revised strategy

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government will prioritise the completion of 35 hospitals under the Agenda 111 programme.

The decision is part of a revised strategy to phase the project and ensure that stalled facilities are completed and put to use.

Speaking during a courtesy call to the Northern Regional House of Chiefs on Friday, May 15, President Mahama expressed concern over the original plan to construct 111 hospitals simultaneously, citing a lack of proper phasing and sequencing during implementation.

He noted that this simultaneous approach caused several projects to stall at various stages of completion. Additionally, some contractors reportedly abandoned their sites after receiving mobilisation funds.

In response, the President stated that the government is pursuing accountability measures to recover funds from these defaulting contractors.

“Government this year is going to put money in and continue them and complete them, and then adequate provision will be made in the next budget to clear another batch,” President Mahama disclosed.

To further support the completion and subsequent management of the facilities, the president revealed that the government is engaging faith-based organizations and private health operators to adopt some of the hospitals.

This collaboration aims to expand healthcare access across the country.

President Mahama emphasized that the revised approach is part of a broader commitment to ensure value for money in public infrastructure projects and to prevent uncompleted facilities from straining public resources without delivering services to communities.
