#2024Polls: Agona West NPP expels 280 members, including MP
The Agona West Constituency branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Central Region has expelled 280 members, including the incumbent Member of Parliament, Cynthia Morrison, effective December 16, 2024.
The decision was unanimously reached during an Expanded Constituency Executive Committee meeting held on December 15, 2024.
The expulsion imposes an indefinite ban on the affected individuals, prohibiting them from identifying as NPP members, holding party positions, participating in party activities, or using party symbols and flags.
According to a statement issued by Constituency Chairman Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, the expelled members were accused of contesting as independent candidates, supporting rival political parties, or backing independent candidates during the recent parliamentary election.
These actions, the statement said, were in violation of the NPP's Constitution.
Chairman Tanko emphasized that the decision was taken to uphold party discipline and maintain unity within the constituency. “The NPP constitution mandates such actions to protect the integrity of the party,” the statement noted.
