Baba Jamal Mohammed denies vote-buying allegations, appears before party committee
Baba Jamal Mohammed has appeared before a committee chaired by Mr Kofi Totobi Quakyi to address allegations of vote-buying during last Saturday’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency, firmly denying any wrongdoing.
In a statement, Mr Mohammed said he used the opportunity to reiterate his innocence and rejected claims that he attempted to induce voters during the internal contest.
He noted that his political history in the constituency demonstrates his commitment to party unity and due process, recalling that he had previously contested two primaries in Ayawaso East and lost on both occasions to the late Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency, Naser Toure Mahama.
According to him, he accepted the outcomes each time he lost the democratic contest in the spirit of cohesion and loyalty to the NDC.
Providing details of his performance in the most recent primaries ahead of the 2024 general elections, Mr Mohammed said he secured 309 votes against the winner’s 452 votes.
He attributed his growing support base within the constituency to what he described as his integrity, initiatives undertaken for residents, and a shared commitment to improving representation for Ayawaso East in Parliament.
He expressed appreciation to the committee for granting him the opportunity to present his side of the matter and thanked delegates in the constituency for the confidence reposed in him to lead the NDC into the upcoming by-election.
Mr Mohammed further pledged to remain focused on delivering meaningful development and improving the lives of constituents.
He ended his remarks with a message of solidarity, saying, “Long live the NDC! Long live Ayawaso East Constituency! Long live Ghana!”
The statement was signed by Baba Jamal Mohammed, ESQ.
