Baba Jamal pledges ultra-modern market for Nima and expanded support for women traders
Baba Jamal, the National Democratic Congress's Parliamentary Candidate for Ayawaso East Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, has outlined plans to lobby the government for the development of an ultra-modern market facility in Nima, citing the critical role women play in driving the area’s local economy.
According to him, research indicates that nearly 70 per cent of Nima’s economy is powered by women, many of whom are engaged in petty trading to support their families and households.
At the centre of this economic activity is the Nima Market, which serves as the primary hub for market women and small-scale traders.
Baba Jamal noted that for decades, the women of Nima have demonstrated resilience and sacrifice in sustaining livelihoods and keeping the local economy vibrant.

He stressed that they deserve a trading environment that promotes dignity, safety and opportunity.
He explained that the proposed ultra-modern market facility would help ease congestion, improve sanitation, enhance security and provide a more organised and dignified space for business, particularly during peak trading days.
Beyond infrastructure development, Baba Jamal highlighted ongoing economic empowerment efforts targeted at women traders.
He disclosed that under a dedicated support scheme, a total of GHS2.5 million in non-interest loans will be disbursed to market women and small-scale traders to help expand their businesses.
He assured that the initiative would be sustained and strengthened to enable more women to benefit and grow their enterprises sustainably.
Baba Jamal reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the interests of the constituency, emphasising that empowering women remains central to his broader vision of building a thriving and economically resilient Nima.
