Failing to put your house in order will derail your prospects in 2028 - NDC slams NPP over delayed national election

New Patriotic Party holds its national executives election today

Deputy National Women's Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dzifa Tsegah has criticised the leadership and organisation of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) after delays stalled the start of their national delegates conference at the Baba Yara Sports Studium in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

Speaking to journalists after waiting nearly five hours past the official start time, Ms. Tsegah stated that the organisational disarray demonstrates that the NPP has significant internal work to do before it can position itself as a viable political force.

"We were given 9:00 am, and we arrived at half-past nine, expecting things to kick off shortly after," Ms Tsegah explained, highlighting, "it is almost 2:00 pm, and they haven't even started. It tells you that, honestly, the NPP has a lot of work to do to put their party together".

Ms. Tsegah had led a delegation of NDC Ashanti regional party executives to the venue to deliver an official solidarity message following a formal invitation sent to the NDC headquarters.

However, citing prior commitments including a scheduled trip to Techiman, the NDC delegation announced it could not wait indefinitely due to the lack of official communication or an updated timetable.

Instead, Ms. Tsegah opted to deliver the ruling party's goodwill message through media briefing.

She conveyed official greetings from President John Dramani Mahama, NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, and the general membership of the governing party.

"Our solidarity message is being given anyway," Tsegah said, adding, "we are here as brothers because, outside political competition, we are all Ghanaians. We really hope this election pulls the best out of them because Ghana needs a strong opposition to keep democracy alive and keep the government on its toes".

Despite her well-wishes, Ms. Tsegah warned that persistent disorganisation within the opposition party signals a prolonged period out of power.

She emphasised that the incumbent NDC government remains focused on serving the electorates, warning the NPP that failing to reform internally would derail their prospects in 2028 and beyond.
