Finance Minister inspects abandoned Takoradi Market Circle project, assures resumption in early 2026
Ahead of the presentation of the 2026 National Budget on Thursday, November 13, 2025, the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has visited the abandoned Takoradi Market Circle project in the Western Region to assess its current state and reaffirm the government’s commitment to its completion.
During his visit on Saturday, Dr. Forson described the Market Circle as a symbol of economic promise for the people of Takoradi and the Western Region, noting that its completion would greatly improve livelihoods and boost local commerce for thousands of traders and families.
“Standing at the heart of this vibrant city, the site reminded me of the immense promise it holds for thousands of traders and families,” the Minister stated.
He assured residents that the contractor is expected to return to the site early next year, adding that the government is making progress with ongoing debt restructuring efforts, which will pave the way for the project’s resumption.
“I’m pleased to assure our compatriots that the contractor will return to the site early next year as we conclude the ongoing debt restructuring,” he said.
The Market Circle redevelopment, once completed, is expected to transform Takoradi’s commercial hub into a modern trading and business complex, improving safety, sanitation, and access for traders and customers alike.
Dr. Forson’s visit forms part of a broader effort to revive stalled infrastructure projects across the country as the government prepares to outline its 2026 fiscal policy and economic recovery agenda.
