"Whether [by] Gold Board or the Bank of Ghana, there has been a loss," Rev Charles Owusu has said, asserting questions about the situation must be answered transparently.

Speaking on Peace FM, he suggested Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD) Chief Executive Sammy Gyamfi was being shielded from scrutiny. While he acknowledged reports of huge inflows brought in by GOLDBOD, he argued this was not sufficient grounds to dismiss a reported $1.7 billion (approximately GH¢22 billion) loss without holding anyone accountable.

"So what you're saying is we shouldn't question this? Is it because you say you've brought over $10 billion into the country and so if there's a $1.7 billion loss, we shouldn't ask questions over it?" Rev Owusu asked.

He questioned the logic behind the situation, noting that the Bank of Ghana (BoG) itself has not disputed the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) reported $1.7 billion loss figure.

He further wondered whether GOLDBOD was being treated as beyond scrutiny simply because Sammy Gyamfi leads it, and asked whether the same leniency would apply if the New Patriotic Party (NPP), rather than the National Democratic Congress (NDC), were in power.

"Would the NDC ask us to be quiet about it if the NPP had made such a loss in a gold for oil transaction?"
