Deputy Chief of Staff, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, has joined celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of the Fire Service Ladies Association (FISLA), commending the group for its contribution to leadership, service and women’s empowerment.

The Association, established in 1995, has grown into a national platform supporting female personnel within the Ghana National Fire Service.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Bampoe Addo paid tribute to women breaking barriers in Ghana, including the country’s first female Chief Fire Officer, Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, and Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, describing their achievements as inspirational to young girls.

She noted that under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, women are increasingly occupying key positions in national leadership, with nearly 27 per cent of political appointments held by women.

The Deputy Chief of Staff reaffirmed government’s commitment to promoting gender equity through the implementation of the Affirmative Action Act and expanding opportunities for women across various sectors.

She also announced plans to strengthen the Ghana National Fire Service, including the procurement of 100 new fire tenders, a GHS1 billion retooling package for the security services, and the establishment of a dedicated Health and Safety Fund for firefighters.

The celebration highlighted FISLA’s three decades of impact and its continued role in advancing the welfare and professional development of women within the Fire Service.
