Jean Mensa is Accra-based EC commissioner, never travelled outside Accra-Bernard Mornah

Former People’s National Convention (PNC) flagbearer in the 2024 general elections, Bernard Mornah, has launched a scathing attack on the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, describing her as an “armchair commissioner” who failed to effectively manage Ghana’s electoral processes.
Speaking in an interview with Obaapa Yaa Titi on the Oman Ghana Nkosuo morning show on Accra-based CTV, Mr. Mornah accused the EC boss of being more concerned with the privileges of her office than the core duties of election administration.
According to him, Mrs. Mensa “was only interested in the luxuries that came with the position” and did little to strengthen the Commission’s work.
He argued that, unlike her predecessors, such as Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, who frequently travelled across the country to train election officers and oversee preparations, Mrs. Mensa remained in Accra throughout her tenure with soldiers following as bodyguards.
“For all her reign, she never moved outside Accra. There was never a single day that Jean Mensa left the comfort of her office to train officers across the country,” Mr. Mornah claimed.
The former PNC leader further questioned her familiarity with the “rudiments of election management,” insisting that her approach undermined public trust in the Commission.
