Mahama: NDC majority will be used for reforms, not dictatorship

President John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaians that his administration remains firmly committed to democratic governance, despite his party’s overwhelming majority in Parliament.
Speaking at a media engagement, the President dismissed suggestions that he intends to exploit the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) dominance in the Legislature to entrench himself in power or seek an additional term.
“The mandate given to me by the people of Ghana is to carry out reforms that will strengthen governance and improve the lives of citizens, not to establish a dictatorship,” President Mahama stated.
His remarks came in response to a journalist’s question about whether the NDC’s parliamentary majority could be used to undermine democratic institutions.
He emphasised that his government’s agenda is reform-driven and people-centred, not authoritarian.
President Mahama explained that the NDC’s strong numbers in Parliament will instead be used to advance constitutional amendments and legislative reforms aimed at deepening democracy and securing Ghana’s future.
“Our majority in Parliament is not a tool for abuse of power but an opportunity to deliver on the aspirations of Ghanaians,” he affirmed.
