The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued guidelines for its upcoming parliamentary primary in the Tamale Central Constituency ahead of the September 30 by-election.

The by-election follows the tragic death of sitting MP Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, who lost his life in the August 6 helicopter crash.

In a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC outlined procedures aspirants must follow to contest.

Nomination forms will be available at the party’s Northern Regional Office, where completed forms must also be submitted. Approved aspirants will later receive a certified delegates list after vetting.

According to the guidelines, aspirants are required to pay a non-refundable nomination fee of GH¢5,000, along with a filing fee of GH¢40,000, payable in cash directly into the party’s official account at UMB Bank, Adabraka Branch. The party stressed that cheques and bankers’ drafts will not be accepted.

Female aspirants and persons with disabilities will enjoy a 50% reduction in the filing fee, in line with the party’s affirmative action policy.

An official timetable has been attached to the guidelines, with the party urging all aspirants and stakeholders to strictly observe the deadlines.

The statement further called for fairness, unity, and decorum throughout the process.

Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that it will not contest the by-election.
