NDC mourns loss of key party figures and military officers in helicopter crash

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic military helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, claiming the lives of eight prominent Ghanaians, including senior government officials and military personnel.

In a press release signed by General Secretary Mr. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the party described the incident as a devastating blow not only to the NDC but to the entire nation.

Among the deceased are:

Hon. Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence and a leading member of the NDC

Hon. Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, and Member of Parliament

Dr. Samuel Sarpong, National Vice Chairman of the NDC

Alhaji Muniiru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator

Mr. Samuel Aboagye, Former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East (2020, 2024)

Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala

Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu

Sergeant Ernest Addo

Describing the deceased as “exemplary patriots who served Ghana with honour, courage, and unwavering dedication,” the NDC said their sudden deaths are an irreplaceable loss to their families, the party, the government, and the nation.

“This is a devastating moment for our Party and for our nation.

We have lost not only loyal comrades, but also exemplary patriots,” the statement said.

The party extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved families, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the people of Ghana.

“We shall honour the memory of our departed comrades by upholding the values they lived and served for — patriotism, selflessness, integrity, and commitment to nation-building,” the statement concluded.
